DISTRACTION FREE READING PRIMARILY MEANT FOR KINDLE E-BOOKS
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS- Light weight and beautiful display. Easy to hold, easy to read. Thank you Vani !WHY SHOULD ONE BUY KINDLE?I was using Kindle app on smartphone and PC for quite few years, and was skeptical of investing 5859 on this mere kindle reader (books need to be purchased separately). However, this lockdown forced me to spend all my time on phone and PC, leaving strained eyes. Also, distractions(whatspp, youtube etc) is so high while reading on internet connected devices. This reader solves the problem in one go. It is light to hold for hours, and distraction free to improve your productivity to 2x-3x. Best of all, no strains on eyes means, you can carry your work for more amount of time, effectively making you productive by 4x-5x.I am a law student and all my books, articles and Court judgments are in PDF( Legal documents use large font size and equal spacing, and lots of margin consuming only 10-12 lines in a page). It is better to convert them in mobi format online, and then transfer to it. Few page documents can be read in it in Landscape mode. However, it is not advisable to buy it only for PDF reading, if texts are small. In the box-Kindle, data cable (1m length, 2A decent quality)BUILD QUALITY – Plastic body with matte finish. Won’t fall from your hand. Display glass also seems good. Doesn’t bleed or squeak on applying thumb pressure. Also, no smudges are left either on screen. You may use cover, but it will increase the weight. I have white colored device, and so far it isn’t getting dirty as feared.DISPLAY- E-ink makes it like a paper book. There is no strain on eyes, unlike mobile or PC, and you can read on it continuously for hours. I have set the brightness level to 9(out of 20), which works for me in day as well as night.TOUCH – Touch sensitivity is fine for page turning usage only.ECOSYSTEM – I have been using Kindle on smartphone and PC for years. It is advisable to all to first try kindle app, then invest in it. It is fairly smooth, but initial set and learning may consume an hour. You get features like inbuilt dictionary, highlight, share, sync across your mobile, pc and kindle, multiple fonts, variable font sizes which suffices the need for all. Purchasing a kindle book can be done from kindle app or from your linked amazon account.Additionally, you can send PDF using USB cable, or mail it to kindle mail id using your approved/registered email id, or using SEND TO KINDLE software from PC.PDF READERS- Kindle books are a treat to read on this. You can convert your PDFs to mobi format but it isn’t that perfect. PDF need to be plain text for better conversion.PDFs have to be read in Landscape orientation. It divides the page in half, making texts more visible than Portrait format.Graphics and images are not meant for it. Bigger the text, better it gets. I can’t suggest this reader to UPSC, medical and engineering students, as PDF used by them wouldn’t turn as beautiful as per their expectation. In my case, it works as legal documents use large font size and equal spacing, and lots of margin consuming only 10-12 lines in a page. The Kindle Personal Document Service can convert and deliver the following types of documents:Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx)Rich Text Format (.rtf)HTML (.htm, .html)Text (.txt) documentsArchived documents (zip , x-zip) and compressed archived documentsMobi bookImages that are of type JPEGs (.jpg), GIFs (.gif), Bitmaps (.bmp), and PNG images (.png).Adobe PDF (.pdf) documents are delivered without conversion to Kindle DX, Second Generation and Latest Generation Kindles.Adobe PDF (.pdf) can be converted to Kindle format and delivered on an experimental basis. If the document that failed belonged to one of the above document types, please ensure the document is not password protected or encrypted. Note that the Latest Generation Kindles support password protected PDFs.Helpful tips for personal document attachments:The file size of each attached personal document should be less than 50MB (before compression in a ZIP file)The email submitted should not contain more than 25 attached personal documentsBATTERY – On Wifi, it consumes much battery. 1% in 3 minutes, while on aeroplane mode, with no lights, 1-2% in an hour, and with lights on medium settings, 3-4% in an hour.Wifi has to be turned on only to download books and sync.It takes approx. 2 hrs to charge, and can last for 20 hrs on flight mode.It has a lot of preinstalled screen savers, and they don’t consume any battery.STORAGE- Out of 8 GB, I got 6.23 GB for my usage.KINDLE UNLIMITED – It has to be additionally purchased. It allows you to borrow at max 10 books from store for free at once. Once your subscription ends, books are gone. Availability of new titles in far less, and you will have to purchase them separately. However, there are thousands of them available for a reader to engage.Check beforehand in Kindle app before paying. This device came with a bundled offer of 3 months access for a mere Rs. 2, but can only be availed by select bank holders like Kotak, ICICI and HDFC etc. I would suggest to purchase your own books, unless you’re getting Unlimited subscription at quite less during sale period.CONCLUSION – Before investing in this reader, first get experience of Kindle app on your mobile. This reader will only provide distraction free reading and zero strain on eyes. For serious readers, who spend more than half an hour per day on using Kindle app, they will find it really useful.

I would first like to tell that I am a student of class 10th, I bought this 4 weeks ago.
    Why I bought this?
I just wanted to build a new habit of reading, and I just made a target of reading atleast 1 book a week. I didn't want to use it to for my textbooks but wanted to see if it can handle it of not.

Lets go on a detailed review.

    LOOK AND FEEL-
The body is of plastic and has a kind of matt finish but it definitely not feel a premium gadget. It is easy to hold but some scratches at the back are visible. But thats not a problem as it still looks good. There are no scratches on the screen and I don't think there would be ever either.

    USER INTERFACE AND TOUCH-
The overall interface is actually very bad if compared to a phone or tablet. But since it is not a replacement for tablet, but for books it does the work. It is a complete distraction free environment. The touch is actually bad but it pretty much does the job since you only have to turn pages and as compared to a book, I haven't seen any book with touch screen yet so its just an additional feature☺️

    READING TIME-
It just feels like it has a paper embedded in it, I remember one of my relatives calling it a photoframe. There is no eye strain and it also helps you read in pitch dark which is not possible with real paper. I had a hard copy of a book but still chose to read it on it because I dont have to struggle turning pages and i am very bad with it. Nor I like the so called smell of the paper so it is the obvious choice for me and I would pick it up any day over a book. The only thinkn I like about book over this is that they look very good filling a shelf with there beautiful covers

    TEXTBOOKS-
Essentially mobi format can support any book which has 95% text and minimum photos but also if a book has multiple columns then it kind of fails there so you would have to use it as a pdf. It can display any pdf. I have tried hand written digital notes, scanned pdf of hand written notes, Books with lots of diagrams, books with multiple columns.
The only time it refused to display something was a page from my bio book which had a lot of diagrams. While it displayed other pages which had diagrams only one page was left blank.
It can though display all these i wouldn't use it to replace my all books since a textbook has a lot of coulurs and it looks a bit of visually appealing but on it it doesn't look that appealing. I use it to display some maths books since the dont have diagrams and when i have to just refer to a book which I dont have and that can be very well done on a tablet.

    COMICS?-
While it can display them they don't look that good and I wint recommend it for that.

    CONCLUSION-
It is very good choice to read fiction or non fiction. For fiction readers it has a dictionary feature which gives you the meaning of any word and it is saved so you can see how many words you still remember thus enhancing your vocabulary. For non fiction it gives you making notes whichbis very good as you dont have to take paper and pen for marking your key learnings. It cant replace textbooks but I am sure in future it may be able to do that also. The only feature I would want is a physical page turn button.

SO I WAS ABLE TO READ 8.5 BOOKS IN 4 WEEKS WHICH IS 4.5 BOOKS EXTRA AND CONSIDERING THAT I HAD MY EXAMS DURING THIS PERIOD SO IT DOES HELP YOU READ. I WAS JUST READING NONFICTION FOR FIRST BUT I ALSO READ A FEW FICTION. IT REALLY HELPS TO EXPERIMENT SINCE YOU DONT FEEL PHISICALLY ATTACHED TO THE BOOK.

I've gone through several kindles in the last few years (I have somewhat of a Kindle buying problem and I read about four books a month) and I've used everything from the Paperwhite 10th Gen, to the Paperwhite 11th Gen to the Kindle Oasis to even the new basic Kindle.

I wanted an inexpensive, compact basic model that I could throw in my bag and not have to worry about, but wasn't willing to spend 10k on the new basic Kindle. It didn't seem worth it to pay 4k more just for a 300ppi resolution screen and no noticeable upgrades otherwise. It doesn't make a difference to me if my page takes an extra millisecond to load. I probably take longer to turn the page of a physical book anyway.

So this one does the job for me despite having a lower resolution screen (you can barely notice it, actually) and no dark mode (which I don't use anyway). Build quality seems better than the new basic model. Even with heavy duty reading and the frontlight brightness set at level 6 at all times, the battery hits 50% at the end of four weeks - so I'm quite happy with the battery life too. I bought this on sale for around 6k and I think at this price it makes for a great no-nonsense e-reader option.

And after reading several books on this, I feel like I don't need the bells and whistles of the more expensive kindles at all. The newer features (except maybe waterproofing) just seem like a way to get us to keep upgrading.

I'm sharing my thoughts after using this Kindle for a week. Although I wasn't a consistent reader before, this purchase has changed that. The Kindle has truly enhanced my reading experience, offering a level of enjoyment that traditional books can't match. The convenience it brings to reading is remarkable. Features like Word Wise and the built-in dictionary have proven invaluable. However, I do find the price point a tad high, especially given the absence of USB C charging, warm light, and audiobook support. I got it for 6700 INR. One feature I believe would be extremely beneficial is Audio Pronunciation for the dictionary and vocabulary builder. Since the device already boasts a text-to-speech engine, I believe integrating this function in upcoming software updates would be a seamless addition that many users, including myself, would greatly appreciate.
