One of Sidney Sheldon’s most popular and bestselling titles, repackaged and reissued for a new generation of fans. Kate Blackwell is one of the richest and most powerful women in the world. She is an enigma, a woman surrounded by a thousand unanswered questions. Her father was a diamond prospector who struck it rich beyond his wildest dreams. Her mother was the daughter of a crooked Afrikaaner merchant. Her conception was itself an act of hate-filled vengeance. At the extravagent celebrations of her ninetieth birthday, there are toasts from a Supreme Court Judge and a telegram from the White House. And for Kate there are ghosts, ghosts of absent friends and of enemies. Ghosts from a life of blackmail and murder. Ghosts from an empire spawned by naked ambition…Sidney Sheldon is one of the most popular storytellers in the world. This is one of his best-loved novels, a compulsively readable thriller, packed with suspense, intrigue and passion. It will recruit a new generation of fans to his writing.

Absolutely amazing. It has everything you can expect of Sidney Sheldon. The plot is fast paced, and there is not a second you wouldn't want to see your characters learn, loose, win and play into the game.

This book is similar to Bloodline by Sidney Sheldon. This is my fourth book from Sidney Sheldon. and I finished it in a week. I loved the beginning, particularly the 1st generation. From rags to riches of 1st generation and how revenge was taken was awesomely written. 2nd Generation is where Kate comes and she's such a interesting character that you keep turning pages but then from the 3rd generation, I had a feeling that the book had been rushed plus it was so damn predictable. Tony's life is not interesting but the way his character has been bid adieu is interesting way to end. And Eve! don't even get me started! she was such a bitch and in the end she got away with just being ugly! or it would have been better if she realized her wrongs and took over the family business. When she was distanced from home, it was obvious that she was gonna use her twin-power! and then the last few chapters were over in 10 minutes! Alex still didn't know what a vicious little cunning sister she'd got and she didn't know about George being a sadist and gay! but then again it was written in the 80s so bravo!! a good read but not one of his bests!

Sydney Sheldon is a veteran writer famously for bringing books filled with drama and thriller. I got hands on this book after suggestion from a friend and was highly excites as I was ready sydney's almost after a decade.

I found this book to have a decent story but could not push myself to give any marks for a thriller novel.

I have given three stars because there was never a point where I found the story to be boring or overstretching. And it missed my list of great reads as it just portraits the dramatic life of 4 generations in a family and nothing much more.

5 stars for the book. It's everything that's expected of a sidney sheldon novel. A masterpiece.
My only problem was the quality of the book. It didn't feel original. The words were not well-printed, it just didn't feel right. Overall, enjoyed it thoroughly.
